If your students are struggling to get along when working in groups, using group work jobs or roles can really help. These are modified from the research of Elizabeth Cohen, and include Name Tags and Descriptions for an Accountability Agent, Facilitator, Harmonizer, Materials Manager, and Time Keeper. Explicit teaching of the roles and their descriptions before beginning the group work is really helpful. Students should also rotate roles every day, so all students get to experience all roles.

This is a great tool to teach your students how to rate themselves on their cooperative learning skills.
