This unit plan was piloted in a third grade classroom during my student teaching semester. Students were able to learn about diversity and historical and contemporary figures in black history. The interdisciplinary design of the unit ties black history and writing together to allow for weaving lessons on important topics throughout the duration of the unit. The unit is centered around three children's books all with available read a-louds on YouTube.
