This document allows student to use the Rally Coach Kagan structure to conduct peer conferences using each aspect of the on demand writing rubric. Copy each set and gives cards to students. Place students into groups. One at a time a student reads a peer's writing and chooses a card to give comments about the particular part of the rubric. With this instructional strategy, students are learning from their peer's writing and it turn learning the essential parts of the writing rubric

Stereotyping and bullying have become a major problem in our society. I have taken a creative approach in dealing with this by integrating the topic into a creative writing assignment that satisfies the common core standard of argumentative/persuasive writing. Included is a fun "Wreck it Ralph" writing paper for final drafts. -Students can start the lesson off by watching the movie trailer of "Wreck it Ralph" on you tube and discuss the dilemmas at hand. This half sheet exercise challenges students to find the persuasive strategies used in a persuasive paragraph (FRIES: Facts, Reasons, Illustrations, Examples, and Statistics) and underline them in different colors. Then, students are challenged to write their own persuasive paragraph using FRIES. This activity was originally used in 7th grade language arts to review persuasive stratigies, but would be great for any middle grades class learning persuasive stratigies.
