Reading strategies lessons for Microsoft Publisher
Point of View Poster
This poster is a great tool to use when teaching students the difference between first person and third person point of view. It gives the meanings of each along with clue words that can be found while reading a text to determine the point of view. The file is a Microsoft Publisher file and will open in that program. It will print on three pages and it will need to be put together after printing. Laminate for extra durability.

Cause and Effect Matching Cards
This is a set of 24 cards that have cause and effect.
I have used them as a class game. Each student gets a card and they each need to find their partner. I have then explain who is the casue, and who is the effect and using a conjunction.
It could also be used as a small group activity, or have students work in partners to make matches.

Theme is ALWAYS so difficult for my 4th-graders to understand. Yet, it is SO IMPORTANT for them to have a firm grasp of theme and thematic concepts as they work to comprehend fictional texts. These two worksheets will both guide them along the process in understanding theme AND allow them the opportunity to identify theme in easy-to-comprehend passages.

This document is a fully editable Microsoft Publisher Document.This classroom display can be hung horizontally or vertically to help your students recall what a summary is, as well as all of the components of a SWBST summary. There is also an example of this kind of summary using Bridge to Terabithia Chapter 2.

Theme Extension Activity Task Cards
What I do with this theme activity is glue these ‘summaries’ onto brown paper bags and have the kids place the theme into the paper bag. This way you can “secretly” assess how many kids are on track or if theme needs to be re-taught. The answer key is included.
