ANCHOR stands for Appreciations, News, Concerns, Highlights, Obscurities, and Reading. This can be done in discussion group orally, can be done written and then discussed in small or whole-class groups, or a one-on-one conference with the teacher/counselor/admin. I added explanations for certain letters because it is powerful to articulate why something was a highlight or an appreciation, and why you are concerned about something. This is a good way to get to know students and see where they are
