I have been using these posters in my classroom for a couple of years now, and have found them to be very helpful in helping my students master the five types of text structure. As we read something new in class, we consider the text structure, and identify it by moving an arrow, that I made magnetic for my whiteboard, to point to the specific text structure that we are reading. This is a great way to foster analytical discussion with our students about this particular topic throughout the school

By figuring out how to express opinions out loud, students will become better opinion and argument writers! Writing time should always be fun and manageable. Nobody enjoys taking a writing test, but being able to write “on demand” is a skill that serves a viable purpose. I firmly believe that a writing curriculum and systematic on demand wr

Test taking strategy puzzle activity

Before my third graders took their third grade Reading Guarantee test, we went over a multitude of test taking strategies! I had each student choose 4, and write one on each puzzle piece. Then cut out the puzzle pieces and glue them together, on construction paper. This helped them commit the strategies to memory, as opposed to just hearing me repeat them over and over again! They can also glue the pieces in their interactive reading notebooks for future reference too!
