Connect 4 Game Simplifying Monomials Review

This game consists of up to 30 questions for a friendly classroom game of connect 4. This game is easily adapted to other topics as well. (You can easily change this to simplifying monomials and polynomials!) I divide the class into two teams. I display the board. Then ask a person from the red team to pick a number. Once picked, everyone must answer the question during an allotted time amount. Comparing answers is allowed as long as it's not copying...but explaining! Next, I randomly pick a p

Race Car Review! This game is great for reviewing multiple choice style questions, or any questions that can quickly and easily be checked. Students will work in groups and come up to the front of the room to grab one question. They will take that question back to their group to work on and then check the answer with the teacher. If their answer is correct they move their team's car on the smartboard forward. The first team across the smartboard wins!

Factoring With Algebra Tiles

This SMART Notebook file leads through two Algebra lessons on factoring polynoials with Algebra tiles. The first lesson uses tiles to factor out a monomial from a polynomial (also called factoring out a GCF or Greatest Common Factor). The second lesson uses tiles to factor quadratic trinomials. Notes are provided on how I use them in my classroom.

I don't typically begin teaching a new concept with an application, but this problem offers so many layers that it works really well. Students split up into groups or pairs and determine the area of various rectangular houses based on a set perimeter and a given width. Already this requires some strategy and problem solving. Then as a class, they collect and organize their data in a graph and a table. You can then use the graph to introduce new vocabulary (parabola, vertex, axis of symmetry,

Classifying Real Numbers - Drag & Drop

The main page of this notebook file is the "Venn Diagram" representation of the relationship between the set of numbers. In this file, students are required to "Drag & Drop" real numbers into their appropriate place on the venn diagram. In another page, the same numbers are placed in a table (instead of venn diagram) and students are asked to classify each of the numbers. I usually print the table and ask my students to fill it in before we go over the questions in class. You could ask

This review was made using smart notebook software. The review contains 20 questions that cover graphing lines, writing equations of lines, writing equations of lines that are parallel and perpendicular to a given line, graphing absolute value functions, finding lines of best fit using a calculator, and determining domain and range. I use this review the day before a test. My students use personal white boards to work out the problems. The answer key is included. Elizabeth Welch

Graph a Picture Project - Standard Form Smart Notebook File

This is a project I used to asses student's ability to graph equations of circles in general form. The students will be required to choose two equations from the given list to graph and then create four of their own circles to incorporate into their picture. I really enjoyed doing this project with my students because I was able to asses their skills as well as experience their creativity. This Smart Notebook file includes a description of the project, project guidelines, ten circle equations
