The Preconsonantal Nasal Song - A Spelling Song to Practice Nasal Sounds
What are nasal sounds? In one syllable words, they are an /m/ or /n/ before the final consonant. Beginning spellers have trouble using them because when they say them, they come through the nasal passage more than from the lips. Kids can practice saying them by lightly pressing on their nose when they say a word like "bump", or pinching their nose shut and trying to say "bump", which will sound more like "bup" without their nose. When I first bought this wonderful book by Jim Aylesworth I always heard the words to the old gospel tune "Joshua Fit the Battle of Jericho". I decided to create a brand new recording to be used as a Sing-a-Long book with students of all ages where the students respond with the words "Shoo fly shoo fly shoo". All About That Base Word- A Spelling Parody for Syllable Juncture spellers
It's all about that base word! This song reviews that when you want to add a suffix (ed/ing) to a base word (run -> running) there are rules about what to do before adding it. Do I double the letter? Do I drop an E? Do I do nothing? This song teaches it all. It is a "parody" of course of Meghan Trainor's "All About That Bass" song, but the lyrics have been changed to teach spelling.
