Miss D's Class

I am an educational counsellor. While teaching children with special needs I help them work through any emotional issues related to their learning. Many of the students who see me have low self esteem directly related to themselves as a learner. I mainly teach students who have ADHD, Learning Disabilities, Giftedness and emotional concerns like anxiety, low motivation, and anger that are impacting their learning, their academic success and their sense of self as a learner. It is my intention that the skills they gain with me, in my class, will translate back to their classroom with their classroom teacher!

My approach for every child is different. I believe in finding each student's learning style and teaching to their individual learning style. For some of my students, using their learning style to guide how I teach means this is the first time learning has not been an extreme challenge for them. I love shifting my students' outlook on learning from "I can't" to "I can!"

Bachelors Honours Degree in Psychology with a focus on the psychology of education. I have also taken courses on how to teach English literature, science for elementary grades, and spec- ed students.

I love being involved hands-on with my students! I love getting to know them and helping develop their skills and sense of self so they can go into their regular classroom and thrive! I love to travel and am an avid Kayaker! I love to work out hard, and enjoy staying fit!
