Word Problem Key Word Chant with Movements
I created this chant to help third grade students remember key words to look for in word problems to help them determine what operation to use to solve the problem. I also created movements for each operation that the students can perform beside their desk while they say the chant. Do your student tend to have difficultly with word problems? This chant a great way to elleviate intimidation and get students focused on tackling those complex problems!
Classroom Implementation:
When teaching word problems for the first time, I go over these strategies with students. In order to get students to remember the check list, I will say: "What type of problem?" and students will echo "WORD!" This cue tells them that they need to refer to this chant list when solving the problem. O
