Christmas Play - The Grinch

I adapted Dr. Suess' beloved Christmas story into a play that would work in elementary school. In my case, I had my grade 6/7 class as the actors, and the other classes each performed a song. I had help from the music teacher and other classroom teachers for the songs. If you don't have a music teacher, then you could easily omit the music portion and the play would still run great. I suggest surveying your potential actors to see who is interested in learning a lot of lines and who isn't befor

The Big Story- A tale written by Montessori children's drama club

The Big Story preview My students created this tale for our drama club play. It is the story of a tree that likes to tell stories that aren’t true, and the animals that add their own spin to the story and make it a BIG STORY, full of silly exaggerations and gossip. We decided what the characters were, wrote the script together, painted the set and scenery, and put on the dramatic and humorous play for their classmates and parents. It was a whopping success and we have been putting on one big p

This story may be used simply as a Christmas (or holiday-based) story OR as a skit in which a narrator reads it and students act out what is happening. When I used it, I included songs in various places for the performing group to sing as a whole, had a teacher read the story (narrator), and had selected students act out the parts of the characters.

Stinky Coffee (Children's Song w/ Stage Directions and Orchestrated Recordings)

A prekindergarten class came into my music room just after I had used my coffee maker and one of the students asked, "What's that smell"? I explained and the student said, "Well, it stinks!", and started chanting the lyrics. The entire class joined in. Our kindergarten music program that year happened to be about the funny things students say or that we staff say to them, so I worked this into one of the songs.Stinky Coffee Sample
