Genetic Disorder & Karyotype Research Project
Make genetics fun!!! In this dry lab students will complete a “normal” karyotype as well as an "abnormal" karyotype. Upon completing the karyotype and studying the chromosomes they will determine gender and diagnose a genetic disorder. Students will then research their genetic disorder and create an informational brochure. This dry lab can take anywhere from 2-3 days to a week depending on how much time is devoted to in class vs. out of class work.

Project-based learning is “a teaching method in which students gain knowledge and skills by working for an extended period of time to investigate and respond to an authentic, engaging and complex question, problem, or challenge” from BIE .
