Research Project: Crime and Punishment: This is a full unit plan for a 5 - 10 day-long research project. The purpose of this project is to acquaint learners with the consequences of criminal actions, and to encourage them to explore alternative methods of punishment.
The project includes: individual and group collaboration, conducting research, analyzing findings, preparing reports, technical writing, creative and critical thinking, creating a presentation, and presenting to the class.

Sentencing Goals and Options
This resource will take up two 75-minute class periods. The PowerPoint looks at the purpose of sentencing, the sentencing process and the different types of sentencing. The guided note allows students to copy down the note in a scaffolded manner. To end there is a research task where students list the aggravating and mitigating factors, the mandatory minimum or maximum sentence and what they would give the criminal if they were the judge.
