I did this project over the course of a week with very advanced German 4s, but would also work with German 5s/AP. Langsam gesprochene Nachrichten Powerpoint
Get students listening to and reporting on the news.
This is an assignment that utilizes Deutsche Welle's Langsam gesprochnene Nachrichten. I use it in my IB class as a means to have them work on their presentational speaking. Each week 2-3 Students present and then we discuss the pictures that they found.
This is the ppt that walks students through the project. It also includes a chance for you to model the project and then for you to do it, while students help out.

Students take selfies with a variety of school items for points. Then upload the pictures onto a powerpoint, write a sentence to describe the picture and submit.
This has the points for in der Schule, and the handout has the rubric.
To make this more enganging, take a couple of selfies and put them as the examples at the end. This way students can laugh with you and your goofy selfies.

This power point has pictures of various styles of houses. Most the pictures were found on Google images, but show German houses. Some pictures I took myself. Example: Das Einfamilienhaus, die Wohnung, die Eigentumswohnung. This power point was followed up with an activity about the verb 'wohnen' and the dative of location. Wo wohnst du? Ich wohne in einem Einfamlienhaus.
