Students will brainstorm topics they could use to create a survey and bar graph. They will then pick one of the topics and create a survey. After creating a survey they will collect data from classmates. When they have collected data in a tally chart, they will make a bar graph. There are also pages in which students need to write questions that can be answered using their bar graph and then space for students to solve the questions for an answer sheet. My students had a lot of fun with this act

Chocolate Chip Cookie Craze -A multiplying fractions by whole numbers activity

Students are multiplying fractions by 3 and 6 to make a larger recipe of chocolate chip cookies. The goal is to make enough cookies for 87 students (can be changed to fit your needs) to have one cookie and then challenged to make enough for all students to have two cookies using the same chocolate chip cookie recipe. How Long is The Block? For this project students will use some information about the relative size of different vehicles as compared to a typical car, as well as principles of equality to set up and solve an equation about the length of a block near school.
