Every minute of relief can count for something. Once medicine enters the blood stream it will soon have its most powerful effect because it has its highest concentration. Over time the concentration reduces and once it reaches a certain level, the medicine will no longer be effective. The concentration level of medicines can be most accurately modeled by rational functions. Turn your Algebra 2 or Pre-Calculus into a Medical Research Lab in this 21st Century Math Project. Students will use ration

I wanted to find a project involving quadratic functions that would fully engage my students and I immediately thought of the game Angry Birds. I looked around on the internet and found some activities but no projects that fit what I wanted. I wanted it to be similar to how the game works, involve an appropriate and manageable level of difficulty and be open enough that each student should have a unique design. So when you can’t find it, design it. The goal of this project is to design an Angr

It lets them demonstrate their understanding of writing, graphing, and comparing linear functions in a format that is less intimidating than a traditional test. It usually takes two, 80 minute, class periods to complete. If you have shorter class periods, you may need to adjust accordingly. This project is a comprehensive review of linear functions. Students will determine the slope and y-intercept

Real World Quadratics Mini-Project

This is a 1-2 day project in which students work individually or collaboratively to identify and interact with quadratics in the real world around them. Why this activity?I created this activity because my students were working hard on graphing and solving quadratics, but I wanted them to see that math is not isolated from real life! This activity still asks them to interact with and use their math vocabulary, but it allows them to be creative, and gives them some choice in what they are doing.

I originally created this project as a way for students to express their creativity while practicing how to write linear equations. When I first assigned this project, I was so surprised with the hidden talent within my classroom, so I kept assigning it every year. This project will challenge students to find patterns and apply linear equations to something like art that might seem disconnected at first. I tend to give this project prior to a break or before state testing.
