Graduated Cylinders - Measuring the Volume of a Liquid {FREEBIE}

Having a hard time finding assessments for measuring the volume of a liquid? I always pair this assessment with real, hands-on practice in the classroom. I’ve also used it to introduce this topic with the assessment first so the students know how to read the graduated cylinders before you give them one with water in it. There are 6 questions on this one page assessment and an answer document that goes with it. You can use them as exit tickets, homework, class practice, final assessments or in a

Physical Properties of Matter Stations Science TEKS 5.5A

Designed to support Texas Science TEKS 5.5A Classify matter based on physical properties, including mass, magnetism, physical state (solid, liquid, and gas), relative density (sinking and floating), solubility in water, and the ability to conduct or insulate thermal energy or electric energy. The following sheets are the directions for 6 stations to investigate various Physical Properties of Matter. Station 6 has two options. Choose the option that best fits your needs. The first option uses an

Candy Bar Experiment- Measuring Matter

This is a fun way for students to experiment with matter (candy bars) and use science equipment. After teaching a lesson on mass, volume and density, students can apply their knowledge and work in groups to measure different candy bars. Items need: -balance -gram cubes -ruler -container filled with water -pencil -5 fun size candy bars (Snickers, Milky Way, Twix, KitKat, 3 Musketeer) There is also a grading sheet where students can grade each other based on how well they worked as a group.

How to find the volume of a solid using the liquid displacement method

Created by
Judy Zapinsky
This is a short, animated, PowerPoint slide show, demonstrating the method used to find the volume of an irregular solid (a swimmer doll) using liquid displacement. The original volume of water in the graduated cylinder is measured, the swimmer races over to the graduated cylinder and jumps into the water, the water level rises, and the new volume of the water is measured. The subtraction of the two numbers is shown, along with the results.Note - It is also part of my bundled packages of lesson

Give your students practice measuring liquid volume in 30 mL graduated cylinders with this free worksheet. In the worksheet, students record the volume of liquid in graduated cylinders and shade the graduated cylinders to show specific volumes. The tick marks on the graduated cylinders count by one. The graduated cylinders in this worksheet show liquid with a meniscus instead of a straight line. This one-page worksheet includes a complete answer key. This free worksheet is a sample from my Liqui

Density Lab - Discovering the Densities of Coke and Diet Coke

This laboratory experiment (Discovering and Comparing the Densities of Coke and Diet Coke) is written in the scientific format. Students make hypotheses regarding the densities of coke and diet coke, observe the physical properties, and use mathematical reasoning to discover the reason for the density differences between these two materials. Students are always shocked by the outcome of this experiment. This laboratory write-up can be used in isolation, or can be supplemented with comparison
