Geometry students often like to "play" with their compass and straightedge when they first use them: this activity is exactly what I use to get some mileage out of this urge to play: by just repeatedly drawing full circles (as opposed to arcs), students can generate midpoints, perpendicular lines, parallel lines, regular triangles, regular hexagons, and sixty and thirty degree angles.
