TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I teach art to children after school in Westchester, New York. I teach grades 1-4 at our local elementary school and grades 5-7 at the middle school. I love creating art lessons, and I love the time with the kids.

MY TEACHING STYLE

I try to achieve a balance between directed skill development and a child's own creative vision. I teach specific techniques and provide the opportunity for children to add their own imagination to the project, to experiment with a variety of materials, and just to enjoy making art.

HONORS/AWARDS/SHINING TEACHER MOMENT

Currently, I'm exploring acrylics--printing, painting, and collaging mixed media works. I'm happy to have two of my artworks published in UPPERCASE magazine's "Relief" feature in the July-Sept 2021 issue.

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

I have a Master's from Northwestern University and a Bachelor's from Kenyon College. I've studied art, art history, art education, English, and marketing/advertising. I completed an internship with Mona Brookes, artist and author of Drawing with Children, at her studio in Berkeley, CA.

ADDITIONAL BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION

I live in Westchester County, NY with my husband, Jeff. Our two children are in their 20s, off on their own adventures. In our free time, we enjoy spending time on Nantucket with our family and friends. You can follow me here on TpT, on Instagram @ruthchapman.art and my website with my own art is www.ruthchapmanart.com
