TEACHING EXPERIENCE

Paradise Unlimited New England is an educational and writing business. Thirty years experience teaching English to middle school, high school, adult education and college classes. CT Teaching Certifications: Professional Educator for Grades 7-12 English. Now work as substitute teacher with Pre-K to grade 12, as well as teach English online to students ages 1-16.

MY TEACHING STYLE

I have always felt a soft spot for students who have special difficulties, whether it be behaviorally or intellectually. I really enjoy simplifying English for students, especially in terms of literature, grammar and writing. I'm a big fan of scaffolding in order to see the big picture.

HONORS/AWARDS/SHINING TEACHER MOMENT

•Wrote introductory and historical articles for annual Jackman/Moose River Guide. •Poems published in Laurels (New England Anthology); Jackman/Moose River Chronicle; On the Threshold of a Dream Anthology; Dimension magazine three years, First runner-up third year. •Performed poetry readings, literary readings. •Judged poetry slam contests. •Wrote for Border Reporter, Belle Glade Herald, Campus Lantern newspapers and Current Status magazine. •WECS Weekly Radio Show: Weekly music and information program, newscasts. •Acted as organizer, editor, writer, layout advisor for Women’s History Week newspaper spread. •Prepared press releases for Women’s Center functions. •Who's Who in American Colleges and Universities 1985-1986.

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

•M.S. in Educational Technology, currently enrolled at Eastern Connecticut State University. •B.A. in English at Eastern Connecticut State University, with minors in Communications and French, as well as concentrations in Writing and Women's Studies. Dean's List. •Connecticut Teaching Certification #015, Professional Educator for English Grades 7-12.

ADDITIONAL BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION

I didn't teach because it was easy (so I once thought!) or challenging or even for the pay; I taught because it was in my soul. I had no choice. Teaching is challenging at best, but if as a teacher you can light one candle, that is a candle that will burn brightly for years to come.
