I've been teaching math in northeast Ohio since 1995. Because I had to work harder in math than other subjects in school, I found ways to get myself through. I later discovered those tricks, tips, & patience made me a natural fit with lower level learners, and consequently I've been the only teacher in our department who has had at least one lower level prep every year for over 28 years. I continue to teach in the classroom and love the impact we can have by working directly with students.
My class is structured around groups of 3 students, and there is constant dialogue throughout the period. I strive to follow Peter Liljedahl's examples in his "Building Thinking Classrooms in Mathematics." And just for fun, I read Piggie & Elephant books to my classes every Wednesday!
Voted 2014 Teacher of the Year for my high school.
