    Description

A foundational piece of financial literacy starts with personal banking. These resources give students insight into the Federal Reserve System, banks, credit unions, online only banks, check cashing stores, payday lenders, & pawn shops. Instructions & activities are also provided on how to write checks & balance a checkbook, either by hand or using Google Sheets. Review assessments highlight the math involved with these topics (mostly percentages) and conceptual understanding.

Appropriate for middle school through high school students.

AUTHOR'S NOTE: PowerPoint & pdf versions are included. The PowerPoint keys for each of the scaffolded notes are animated. Answers will appear in the blanks by clicking through the presentation.

I use the pdf's during direct instruction. When my school had Promethean boards, I imported pdf's into ActivInspire flipcharts. We now use CleverTouch boards, & I pull up the blank pdf's in Lynx & fill in with students. I also post the blank & completed pdf's in my Google Classroom for absent students.

    Note for Intervention Specialists:

Consider any of MathMotivation’s Applied Math resources for your students! The entire Applied Math curriculum has been tested out & is still currently being used for special education students on IEPs. Many of these students have spent three years in a resource room for high school math then entered into the general education inclusion setting for Applied Math their senior year. (*These students are not alternatively assessed.*) All of the Applied Math materials are great resources for general education & special education!
