Cell Book Project
Directions for students to create a children's book about cell organelles in a cooperative learning group of four. Could be easily tailored for an individual project (I have done it both ways). I typically do this project in class for a week. The project asks students to create a book page for 15 organelles, each with a picture, the function, and a real-world comparison (for example, the nucleus is like the point guard on a basketball team, because it directs the actions of the cell).

Organelle Brochure Rubric
Students are challenged to develop a brochure that will help them create metaphors for the functions that different organelles carry out. Students can select a place, company, sports team, etc. to represent their cell and then all of their organelle metaphors must match their theme.
Example: The cell could represent a town. The police would represent the nucleus because they keep the cell under control and can demand actions of the other organelles.

Paired Muscles Model Arm Rubric
This rubric is ideal to use when teaching students about the human body, most especially when teaching about the muscular system or the skeletal system. Have students make a model arm with a set range of mobility following the constraints on the rubric. This activity is perfect to use for a science class or for a STEAM class.
