Map Making Project: from Harriet Tubman: Conductor on the Underground Railroad
This project requires students to create their own map of the journey Tubman and the 11 fugitives made from Maryland to Canada in December, 1851. The journey is described in Ann Petry's biography, Harriet Tubman: Conductor on the Underground Railroad. I do have this section of the text listed as During Reading if interested. This is a 2-3 week unit specifically designed for immersion teachers (grade 7 and 8 but can easily work with grade 6 and 9 too).
