Kindergarten theme activity for unit on Presidents. I began by reading Martha Brenner's 'Abe Lincoln's Hat' and then asked the students what important things they would want to keep in a tall hat like Lincoln's. The students wrote a sentence about what they would keep and drew an illustration on the inside of the image of the hat.

Students conduct an activity to determine the most effective way to control noise using shoe boxes and sound-absorbing materials. In groups, students will use one of 8 materials assigned by the teacher to sound-proof the inside of a shoebox. This handout lays out the Building Blocks of 5 Paragraph Essay Writing. There is a block for each paragraph, and inside each block are the details that should be included in that particular paragraph of the essay.
