This is a direct instruction lesson I found helpful for my kiddos. I blanked out parts of the first page of notes and had them fill them in. Then the homework looked identical so they could follow the process while looking at GCF and LCM together.

The concept of absolute value is important when adding positive and negative numbers. The student is taken through the steps of evaluation. A number line is included to help with the concept. The lesson continues and the final evaluation considers absolute value as part of an algebraic expression that has two answers, one answer when the negative was used for the absolute value and another when the positive value was used.
