Democracy and Greek Philosophy GATE-- Is democracy the best of bad options?
I used this lesson with my GATE middle school kids, but it could certainly be extended to higher grades. It's current and relevant, yet it ties in well with what they are most likely learning in the regular Social Studies classroom.
This lesson mixes philosophy, social studies, speaking and listening skills, and more. You and your students will be engaged in pondering these important questions. It's the kind of big question you stay awake thinking about!

This rap teaches about saying no to drugs. It was used at Red Ribbon Week for an assembly. This is a rap with audience participation. You need to create a beat with it. There are only a few speaking parts, but it is short and fun for the participants. The child asks the questions, the teacher answers the questions and the punks try to get the child to take drugs. Elementary students can perform it or high school students can perform it for the younger grades.
