Sociology: Community Service as final exam option
Want an alternate option to the usual final exam? I am assessing throughout the course, so a final exam is not that big a deal to me, so I wanted to do something different. With the approval of my principle, students will have an option. They can take to 100 question final exam OR they can complete community service- 10 hours. These pages explain the expectations, have the forms, and due dates for students. Getting students out into their community makes them live sociology!

Democracy and Greek Philosophy GATE-- Is democracy the best of bad options?
I used this lesson with my GATE middle school kids, but it could certainly be extended to higher grades. It's current and relevant, yet it ties in well with what they are most likely learning in the regular Social Studies classroom.
