GATE collaborative unit for cubing
This project is a complete cubing unit built around a single story title for students to evaluate. I used this unit that I designed whole class. My class was divided into six teams. A member of each team completed one side of the cube assignments. As an assessment and to serve as closure for the project we posted the team results on a large wall "GLAD" type grid. Each team shared their results. A class discussions brought out student evaluations of the literature.

The Sign of the Chrysanthemum Character Traits Chart, Chapters 1 - 4
This is the first of several character charts. It includes all relevant characters for the first four chapters of the novel. As students continue to read through the text, character charts are updated, revised, etc. The character chart asks students to describe each character's personality, beliefs, actions, and appearance. You may choose to have students create simple lists or for GATE/Honors students, ask them to provide textual evidence.

Sticky Note Literature Project
I created this project while teaching gifted students. I wanted something beyond a standard book report. This is an individual project that students complete while reading their literature group book. So, students come to class and discuss the novel they are reading with their groups, and then they complete this project individually as they read the book.
The purpose of this project is to make students slow down while they are reading and to think about their reading. It's called a Sticky Note P

Literature Club Response Log Cover
This is designed to create a tall/skinny response log using folded white-lined filler paper. I have the students write 1 "page" (which is really just a half page) each week, dividing their books into fourths, so that a novel takes 4 weeks to complete. Each piece of filler paper is enough for one novel. I aim high and put 6 - 8 pieces of filler paper in, hoping to get through that many books in Literature Clubs each year.
I fold the paper vertically, copy the covers, and staple the edges.
