Vector Treasure Hunt! Drawing Vectors Activity for Physics or Precalculus!

Ahoy, matey! Your students will have a blast practicing drawing vectors on this Vector Treasure Hunt! Students must follow written directions to draw vectors onto a treasure map. If they draw their vectors correctly, the students will find the buried treasure! Students will need to use a protractor and a ruler to draw their vectors. When they are finished, they will draw a "shortcut" on the map. This will be the resultant vector and show the displacement of the ship. Students will also ge

I like to call this activity Putt-Putt-Geometry. It is 9 glorious holes of trigonometry application! This works great as a Trig unit project, end of year project, or test review (maybe 1 or 2 holes for review). The students can work in groups, pairs, or individuals. If your students are not proficient with Trig, or you have not covered it yet, each hole can be done using the Pythagorean Theorem instead - simply tweak the directions a bit. I hope your students enjoy this as much as mine do!

In this inquiry-based project, students will learn how to use basic trigonometric functions such as cosine, tangent and sine to find the missing side distances and angles of a right-angle triangle.Students will explore how fireworks of varying heights will affect the viewing angle and line of sight for the viewing audience.Students will design their own fireworks show that will include 4 different colours of fireworks. Each firework choice has a differing explosion height, which will slightly ch

Project and Rubric - Real World Math (The Pythagorean Theorem)

"In math class, you have learned about the Pythagorean Theorem. You have also seen examples of how the Pythagorean Theorem is used in ‘real life.’ For this task you will create your own “real life” Pythagorean Theorem word problem and model using the following steps..." Students will create and solve their own word problem, construct a 3D model of their scenario, and then write a reflection on their process and experience. *Rubric is included. *This project was created in collaboration with c

How does launch angle impact the range, hang time, and maximum height of a projectile? Allow your students to investigate and explore angle launched projectiles with this Angle Launch Virtual Lab (which uses and online applet from PhET) and Nerf Launcher Lab (which uses Nerf guns). Whether you use the online, face-to-face, or both versions of this lab, your students will observe and analyze how 2D vectors, component vectors, projectile motion, geometry, and trigonometry come into play for proj

12 Complex Diagrams with Missing Angles: Parallel Lines, Triangles, Circles

In this file, you will receive 12 complex diagrams (10 Parallel Lines/Triangles and 2 complex circle diagrams.) All diagrams can easily have missing values manipulated in MS Word. These diagrams can be given out as a single worksheet or pasted into your document. Diagrams could easily be screenshot/cropped and enlarged or minimized to fit your space. In the past, I have put these up on the whiteboard via projector and left them as a bellringer to be worked on in front of my classes. When ac

Students will spend between 1-3 classes exploring how math, specifically angles, plays an integral role in sports. Angles in hockey, basketball, and football are explored through various hands-on activities that require several mathematical calculations and a few reflection questions. Teachers will need the following resources for each section.Hockey:

There are a few paths that lead to a "trigonometry" box that teacher can go to at his/her discretion. There will be a trig flow chart to follow, eventually. So far, my students have thought this pretty handy. It's made my job easier too, because when they raise their hand and a
