The K.I.M. Word Cluster Graphic Organizer is an excellent template to increase content area vocabulary for students. It expands understanding of key vocabulary terms and can be used with narrative and expository text. This strategy is very simple and requires a minimum of writing. The template includes spaces to write the key vocabulary word, synonyms related to the key word, the definition of the word, use it in a sentence, and to draw a picture of the word.

It is best used in conjunction with my Composition Book system, which will also be available on this site. It requires students to annotate texts using their notebooks and forces them beyond summarizing into higher-order processes of predicting, questioning, clarifying, and making real-world connections. It is divided into three sections, beginning with "level one" information (information that can be found without reading the document) and progressing through two additional levels that require close reading and higher level thinking that help students grasp the significance of sourcing information. This handout can be used with any document (including audio/visual docume

Students can become distracted or apathetic during presentation days if they are not the actual presenter. It was my intent to find a way to engage all students in every presentation as well as provide meaningful feedback for the presenters.  Students receive 3-5 of the prompts below (cut horizontally on the dotted lines).  During the presentation, students are required to provide feedback to either a group (if it’s a group presentation) or a single presenter.
