The K.I.M. Word Cluster Graphic Organizer is an excellent template to increase content area vocabulary for students. It expands understanding of key vocabulary terms and can be used with narrative and expository text. This strategy is very simple and requires a minimum of writing. Write Something Reading Strategy
Write Something is an annotation strategy I use that is based on Kylene Beers' "Say Something" strategy outlined in her book When Kids Can't Read: What Teachers Can Do. It is best used in conjunction with my Composition Book system, which will also be available on this site. The GIST: text summarization strategy
Whole School Whole Child presents a literacy strategy. The GIST is a reading comprehension strategy to implement regarding text summarization. This strategy requires students to identify, the lowest level of Bloom’s Taxonomy, the basic elements of the text ie. The GIST. After completing an initial read of a text, students follow the formula below to create a summary. Distribute a handout to each student. Follow the directions as listed on the worksheet.

Presentation Feedback
Students can become distracted or apathetic during presentation days if they are not the actual presenter. It was my intent to find a way to engage all students in every presentation as well as provide meaningful feedback for the presenters.
