Teaching main idea and supporting details using a hamburger approach. The teacher familiarizes the students with the fact that the main idea of a story is like the meat of a hamburger and the supporting details are like the lettuce, tomato, and cheese. I keep a stack printed and grab them whenever I feel my students are not providing enough details to support their character descriptions. Great for push in therapy as well. The "cube" shape reminds students to include details to support the character trait. I like to tell my students that supporting details should be as numerous as the sides of a cube! But lets start with one!
