Independent Reading
Independent Reading is a critical aspect of my ELA classroom. Students read independently for the first 15-20 minutes of every class. I believe that by making students reading of their own choice such a prioritized aspect of their grade, I will be helping my students to become lifelong readers. These documents are the worksheets that I give them to help me assess their reading. They include bibliography sheets, book review sheets and journal entry suggestions.

This powerpoint is an overview of the mentor text, What About Alice? While it incorporates history, it's a delightfully funny book to read aloud! Furthermore, I provide examples of how to extract certain pieces of the text for deeper analysis.
