I have created an editable rapid naming chart. Just change the word listed in the sight word column, and it will auto-fill in the chart. Set your print area, and you are set to go. I have used these with alphabet letters for Kindergarten, and sight words following our curriculum for my other reading groups. My students love to race, and then beat their previous times.

Need extra grapheme tiles for your Barton students, but don't want to pay the price? Here's an Excel file with all the tiles you'll need for Levels 2-10. Tiles measure 1 in. x 1 in. Print them on magnetic paper, cut them out, and have the kids use them on personal size magnetic dry-erase boards, or print them on sticker paper, cut them out, and fasten them to plastic square tiles. Building and sharing words is so much easier!

STAAR Reading Retake Goal Setting Data Sheet

This is a data sheet I designed to set goals with my students. Once you have the SE data back from the first round of STAAR testing, you can fill this chart out to help your students understand what their weaknesses and strengths are while preparing for the retake. Optionally, you could fill this out yourself, if it helps you visualize the data better, though I think it's more powerful to do with the students. They really care about how they did on each kind of question. I prefer to give them

Multi-syllable Word Decoder

Students can break up any 3 syllable words using the six common syllable types (open, closed, bossy e, r controlled, vowel combos, and Consonant+gl) with this handy tool. Print out all three pages for each student. Then glue them together on the right side in landscape orientation. It's easy to store by folding. There are examples listed on the poster to help your students get started. I've used this as practice once my students have learned the six types individually and need help applying it

This activity is meant for a small guided reading group. The bossy R sort includes OR, AR, and, IR. The students start by sorting the pictures by their phonemic sounds they hear in the word and then go onto sort the words. The goal of this activity is get them to hear and read chunks within words, especially focusing on OR, AR, and IR. It pairs very well with Secret Stories.

There is a students tracking paper for students to document their progress so that they can take ownership in their learning. I also added a teacher tracking chart so that teachers can document where students are in the process of mastering the standard.

I attached 3-5 sheets behind student dividers inside of a thick 3-inch binder. When I meet with a student, I record their book title, reading level, date, what we discuss about their book and set the student up with a new reading goal for the week. We may discuss if they like their book so far, who are the main characters, funniest part, they
