Come all the way across the curriculum from READING to STEM activities in this hands-on unit. My advanced group 2nd graders loved this! I would use this for advanced 1st graders in their second semester or 3rd grade as well. I don’t think it would be a stretch to say 4th graders would enjoy it as well.

Comprehen-STEM is a way to connect the STEM disciplines (and students who are excited about them) to books and book clubs. In this Comprehen-STEM packet, based on Carl Hiassen's novel Hoot, students will build a cricket catcher, explore the classifications used with endangered, threatened, and vulnerable animals, and use the mark and recapture method to estimate a population of Florida Burrowing Owls.
