The Outsiders - Stereotypes Worksheet
A worksheet to compare through positive and negative stereotypes the difference between the greasers and the Socs in S.E. Hinton's young-adult novel, "The Outsiders".
Expanded topics to also include difference between wealth and poverty, and students are required to apply the concept of stereotypes to their own lives.

Enough is Enough--Time to Fix our Overpopulated Shelters!
Humane Education, as well as Character Education, is mandated in the State of Florida. But more than that, our county shelters are killing at a rate of 150 animals per WEEK! We need to educate our students the effects of non spaying/neutering has on our animals and shelters.
This hands-on activity ties to the book, It's Raining Cats and Cats by Jeanne Provost. Perfect for grades 1-3 but we have been using the title with our middle school kids for fund raising events.

Cafe Conversation on Democracy
These are questions for a cafe conversation on democracy. Cut out the questions in the document and tape/glue down onto a posterboard. Each group should get a question for 3-5 minutes. After the allotted time, the posters are rotated; every group should answer the question or add to a previous comment. After the final rotation, you may have each group share the most insightful comments or interesting ideas.
