This is a Unit plan that I use at the beginning of 5th grade to make sure that my students are familiar with the basic geography of our world. I believe it could easily be adapted and appropriate for grades 2-6. The basic goal is for the students to be able to correctly label all seven continents and five oceans. Making Generalizations/Generalizing Unit Plan
Generalizing is a tough concept for young kids to grasp. In this four day unit plan, I begin by introducing basic generalizations. Then I introduce valid vs. faulty (invalid) generalizations. I also cover generalizations without clue words. There is a fun generalization matching game for the kids to play with a partner on day three. Finally, on day four, is a jeopardy style review game. (You can easily alter the questions if needed).
This unit plan is based on four (45-60) minute class periods.
