This 76-page assessment package includes 10 UNIT ASSESSMENTS and ANSWER KEYS—one *PRE-TEST* and one *POST-TEST* for each of the five (5) Common Core Units (Operations & Algebraic Thinking, Numbers & Operations in Base Ten, Fractions, Measurement & Data, and Geometry). Each unit has an assessment cover page with all of the standards written in a student-friendly “I Can” format, and include a spot to record the student’s name, assessment dates, scores, and level of mastery.

This is how I use this in my classroom: Each student receives a copy of the STUDENT DATA NOTEBOOK at the beginning of the year. At the beginning of each unit, my students take the unit Pre-Test found in this PRE- & POST- ASSESSMENT PACKAGE. They record their score in the designated spot of their Data Notebook and I record their score in the designated spot in my Math Workshop GRADEBOOK. I then create math workshop flexible groups based on these Pre-Tests and record the groups (along with any useful notes from the pre-test) in my Math Workshop LESSON PLAN BOOK. Throughout the unit, as I feel certain students or small groups have mastered a Common Core standard, they take a quick 4-question POM (Proof of Mastery) assessment to check their level of mastery of the standard. Once we go over the POM, the students mark off their level of mastery in their Data Notebook and I mark it off in my Gradebook. At the end of the unit, the students review their pre-test and all of their POMs from the unit to prepare for their Post-Assessment. Again, I record their score in my Gradebook while they record their score in their Student Data Notebook. That’s it!
