Inside the Pyramid- Creative Writing
This rubric includes directions, a scoring system, and a story starter for students to create a story of historical fiction. The story starter can be used to generate ideas. I have also had students create a story board on the back of the paper. I have also differentiated this assignment by allowing students to create a graphic novel instead of a traditional story. This can be done in class, or outside of class.

Book Review Template
This is a great tool for teacher after reading a picture book or short story to your students. It is aligned with the Ohio Common Core State Standards. It has the students list the main characters, identify and define new vocabulary, summarize from beginning to end, explain their favorite part, and give their opinion on the story just read. It is a wonderful wrap it up activity for a read aloud.
