How To Write A Speech

My students are required to write a 4-H speech. This was my first time teaching a group how to write a speech. I created this flipchart to explain components of a speech along with a rubric. The grading rubric is embedded into the flipchart. In the notes section on the final slide, the directions explain how to open the grading rubric. The grading rubric is open to change. You can change it to fit your requirements or needs for your students. Thank you very much!

Grade 6 Module 2A Unit 1 - Bud, Not Buddy

Hello! My sixth grade class has recently finished Unit 1, Module 2A of the Expeditionary Learning Modules. Within this module, students read the text "Bud, Not Buddy" and practice working with evidence. I created this powerpoint so that I could visually display many of the lesson features, rather than strictly read aloud from the printed lesson. I used the powerpoint on both a smartboard and projector. It took me quite a while to make and I figured sharing it might help save time for others!

Importance of learning English language arts

English language arts (ELA) concepts — reading, writing, listening, and speaking — empower students to become effective communicators, critical thinkers, and lifelong learners. They are the foundation for all other types of learning as students must rely on ELA skills to master content from other subject areas and communicate what they’ve learned.

Strong reading skills can help students make sense of written content, and gather information for further analysis. Writing skills can help students articulate their ideas, construct arguments, and synthesize information. And speaking and listening skills empower students to clearly present their ideas, participate in group discussions, and collaborate with their classmates. This is why teaching English language arts is critically important for student’s success in school and beyond.

Benefits of learning English language arts
