Start Your Own School Newspaper and Newspaper Club
Starting your own school newspaper isn't difficult. I've run (and created) our school newspaper for three years. This document has most of the materials you'll need for set-up. The newspaper club in my school was open to fifth grade students and printed copies were distributed in the school to faulty, staff, classroom libraries, school common areas, and to the newspaper club members. Our newspaper is usually 12 pages long and we use Microsoft Publisher to create it.

Thoughtfulness speech - National Honor Society
I presented this speech as a guest speaker at a National Honor Society induction. This speech deals with the topic of thoughtfulness, both in being an intentional thinker as well as considerate. This speech can be used in a classroom to inspire students and as character education. This speech can also be utilized by leaders trying to unify a team or group, by simply replacing a few words to address the appropriate crowd. Holocaust Group Genocide - AVID Strategy Marking the Text
Students are a read and mark the text about 5 different groups of people who were targeted during the Holocaust. In this way, students are able to see that Jewish people were NOT the only targets.

Research Paper Rubric
We spend close to six weeks learning about, preparing for, and finally writing our research paper. I teach the MLA parenthetical citation method along with note card note-taking skills. This is the rubric I use to assess their final paper. The paper is worth 100 points. This rubric has been changed and altered throughout the years and I think it's finally bullet proof :).
