I love using journals to jump-start full class discussion, and this is one of my favorite go-to's. I have used this journal as an intro to our rhetoric unit, as a way to address inter-classroom issues, and as a way to open discussion about character relationships in our novels. Typically, I will give students around 10 minutes to slowly complete the journal, have them then turn and discuss their ideas to a partner, and finally, have them participate in a large discussion as a whole class. Howeve
