This is a 2016 Newberry Honor Book by Kimberly Brubaker Bradley. It is historical fiction set in England prior and during World War II. It tells the story of an abused, disabled girl and her fight for her own freedom from her life of abuse. I have read it three times now, and I love it more each time. Vocabulary Research
The vocabulary research is ready to use and perfect for upper level vocabulary development. I use these weekly during units that do not have clear vocabulary sets that accompany them. Try having students choose words out of text that they are reading for class to research. I'm always impressed that students don't choose simple words or words their friends are doing.
