I use CVC (consonant-vowel-consonant) picture cards all the time in my classroom! These picture cards are a great way to introduce spelling to students. Each picture consists of a 3-letter word (i.e. c-a-t) so it's easy for students to stretch out and decode the word. You can use these at a pocket chart center, with magnetic letters, or work with a small Guided Reading group. Blending flashcards for common CVC words! Ties in well with PALS (Peer Assisted Learning Strategies) and is great at building phonemic awareness and blending skills. This sample pack has 5-7 cards for each short vowel sound. The student taps each dot (color coded for when to "Stop!") and says the letter sound. Then, moving smoothly along the arrow, the student blends the sounds together. Laminate these and use them for literacy stations, or use it for instruction with small groups or RTI.
