Mentor text list with teaching points

I have created a list of mentor texts (some of my favourite picture books and literature) that I use regularly in Writer's Workshop to teach young authors about craft, process and genre writing techniques through bookmaking. Each mentor text has a list of possible teaching points or learning intentions that can be explored (e.g. illustration study learning intentions, how to write using dialogue, how to use onomatopoeia etc).

Close Reading Strategy Adapted for K-2

This document was created to help K-2 implement the instructional strategy of Close Reading. Close Reading is a strategy that supports the Common Core Reading Standards for both Literature and Informational Text. This instructional strategy was adapted to meet the needs of K-2 students who are simultaneously learning to read and reading to learn. It outlines a 3 step process I use in my first grade ELD classroom where students reading levels range from emergent to fluent readers.

Student Conference Notes Tracker

I created this grid after trying to juggle all of my quick 1:1 conferences with students. My school requires that I take anecdotal notes on students, and this is a great place to record and track them. This weekly grid helped me see which students I had met with during that week, and which ones I still needed to conference with. Since I may have an impromptu meeting with a student or student absences, I like the open grid rather than the set schedule. Directions for use: 1.Circle at the

This document can be used each week for recording your meetings with students. In the "At-a'Glance" section, list your students' names, and keep a running tally of how often each student meets with a teacher for reading during the week (whether it be one-on-one, or in a small group). In the other two sections, you can identify which students you meet with and what strategies you work on with them. This is also a great tool to use when you collaborate with support teachers. They can record wh

I was looking for a weekly planner that suited my needs which didn't use too many pages and alas I failed in my search which required me to trial ideas, this planner has come from a year and a half of trailing what works best for me... In saying this it may not work for your planning as everyone is different. To add tables etc simply open the document in word and use the drawing tool!!!! super easy!
