Academically minded students in their junior and senior years of high school may want to think about applying for many of the small local and national scholarships that are available to students like themselves. But, these kids are already buried under mountains of homework, extracurricular activities and part-time jobs.
This How-To sheet is designed to help students get started writing a personal statement that can be saved and then tweaked for each scholarship he or she may wish to apply for.

Everyone knows the speech, but most students have never HEARD or SEEN Martin Luther King Jr. give his full speech. Let your classroom be their first time!Students will follow along with the speech (video link provided) and take notes on the provided handout as they listen. Perfect activity to send your students into the three-day weekend or use as part of Civil Rights Movement unit!
