Starting your own school newspaper isn't difficult. I've run (and created) our school newspaper for three years. This document has most of the materials you'll need for set-up. The newspaper club in my school was open to fifth grade students and printed copies were distributed in the school to faulty, staff, classroom libraries, school common areas, and to the newspaper club members. Our newspaper is usually 12 pages long and we use Microsoft Publisher to create it.

Elf in the Classroom Arrival Letter - No mention of Christmas or Santa!
I was on the hunt for a letter to have my Elf bring with him when he makes his debut in my classroom next week, but wanted one that didn't specifically mention Santa or Christmas. No luck so I wrote my own poem telling a little about the Elf and reminding the students to be on their best behavior this holiday season.
Attached is the letter in the .doc file so you can replace any of the text that you choose. The elf's name in the letter is Tinsel, but you can edit as you choose.

This is a Black History Biography project which required my students to create a new cereal based on the life on a famous African American. The students had to design a cereal box to tell the story of the person they chose. They had to include things like a cereal name that relates to the person, a picture of the person, a timeline of the person's life, character traits of the person, and a written report of the biography they read about the person. My own students had a blast with this project.

This is a Thanksgiving Crossword Puzzle. I always feel that if you are going to take the trouble of printing off a crossword puzzle for everyone it should a least last 10 to 15 minutes and be somewhat challenging. Most of the crosswords take 2 minutes to complete. I have included a version of the crossword without the word bank for the brave of heart. I hope this works for you. This game can played just like regular bingo, except that instead of calling numbers, you will be playing songs or song clips. The music is a variety of Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa and Winter songs. Included are 30 different bingo boards, directions and hints for playing the game, and a list of songs used in the game.
