Decimal Place Value and Money - Music Video - Math Song
"Change For A Dollar" is a four minute, karaoke style music video, that students can sing along with to help learn about decimal place value. It focuses on the tenths and hundredths places, and how they represent dimes and pennies. This would make a good introduction to decimal place value, or another way to reinforce and review the concept.
I use it with my sixth graders as a review or "Math Starter." The 4th and 5th grade classes at my school also use this song.

There are 2 accompanying lesson plans, one for the classroom teacher and one for the music teacher. Students I have taught this rap to have told me that they now understand fractions and decimals. The Decimal Song
A few years ago, I had a conversation with students that led me to realize that many of them lack a basic understanding of the concept of a decimal (ie. it works like a fraction- it is less than one, or part of a whole).
That led to me working this song into my math program. It is simple and catchy and hammers the point home, so that they won't (can't!) forget it. I used it as an introduction into decimals because it pumps up a unit that can otherwise get a bit dry.
