I used this project for teaching about the age of Rockefeller, but it could be easily adapted. I taught my students how to write a basic blues song and then turned it over to them to write their own. They moaned and whined the first five minutes and then loved it. We ended up using this for other historical events as well.
The most interesting part is letting them choose a perspective. We had anarchist blues, Rockefeller blues, laid-off worker blues, etc.
