This is a powerful lesson for students to see a modern connection to the past.Before this lesson, you should discuss with students how the North was complicit in slavery as much as the South was in the years prior to the Civil War. Northerners profited greatly off the backs of slave labor, whether they would have wanted to admit it or not. Spanish Ser Rap Song
This is a song/chant about how to conjugate the verb ser with a video that includes the lyrics of the song. The students should stand up and rap the song with the music while doing gestures for the subject pronouns. For example, when they say yo soy, they should all point at themselves. I have found this to be the best way to have students remember the verb. Once done with the music a few times, they can chant it without the music on their own to remember the verb chart.
